Suggested study Questions:
- 1. List 5 things the author did wrong and explain why. What would you have done differently?

- 3. List the 10 essentials and why each is important.
- 4. Locate the rescue site, Olympic Hot Springs campsite and Appleton Pass Trail on a map, plot them and calculate how far they are from each other.
- 5. Show on a map the seven trails accessed from the Olympic Hot Springs trailhead. Name the other areas you would end up if you took those routes. Calculate the distances.
- 6. List the five stages of being lost and what a person might experience during each.
- 7. Assuming the helicopter had half a tank of fuel at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and one eighth of a tank at Olympic Medical Center, calculate the gas mileage. (This requires reading to find out the size of the gas tank and also calculating the distances described. I'm not going to just give that info.)
- 8. Explain the difference between a mirage and an hallucination.
- 9. Assume one of the 150-foot trees is the right side of a hypotanuse triangle. If one of the bottom side is 20 feet long, how long is the third side?
- 10. You're stranded in the wilderness with virtually nothing. How do you pass the time during the night?
